Richard's will identified him as Richard Simpson Sr. He gave to his "boy" Richard 12 pence sterling and the remainder of his estate was divided between his seven children "which I had by my last wife called Anne." He appointed his son, Thomas, administrator and guardian of minor children. Witnesses were John Brown, Garret Garretson and Thomas Gilbert. Richard Simpson and Thomas Gilbert signed with their marks, the others signed their names. On 7 June 1711 Thomas Simpson, executor, posted an administrator's bond with Samuel Brown and Thomas Gilbert.

A Richard Simpson was transported by Richard Carter in 1668 to Talbot County, Maryland but it isn't clear if this was the same Richard as the one later in St. Georges Parish. He married twice, first to Elizabeth whose last name is unknown and with whom he had 3 children. He married a second time to Anne Gilbert and they had 7 children. Anne died after 1715. Ann, widow of Richard Simpson and children Thomas, Ann, and Elizabeth, were mentioned in county court records: daughters Ann and Elizabeth, with consent of their brother Thomas, bound themselves to John and Elizabeth Clarke.

By virtue of a warrant issued unto Thomas Richardson for 2000 acres 5 Jun 1688, 53 acres thereof was assigned by the said Richardson unto Richard Simson "...I have laid out for said Simson a parcel of land called Simson's Choice lying on the head of Swan Creek. Rent annum 2 shillings and 1 1/2 pence. In the possession of Richard Simson." Adjoining land owners John Johnson and Andrew McAdfor were mentioned.

The estate of James Phillips as settled early in 1689. Phillips had been a prominent man in early Baltimore County affairs and had owned the land where the original county court house had been located on Bush River. The inventory8 of his estate included a long list of debts owed him at the time of his death. Among the names listed as owing debts to the estate were Richard Sympson, Thomas Preble, Samuel Brown, Wm. Osborne Sr. & Jr., George Utie and many other residents of old Spestuia Hundred.

He owed a debt mentioned in the inventory of Capt. Henry Johnson's estate. Debts were owed by Thomas Gilbert, Richard Sympson, Mathew Goldsmith, Thomas Browne, Wm. Pritchet, James Clark, and more.
He owed a debt to the estate of Edward & Elizabeth Boothby as Richard Simson, other debtors were Thomas Gilbert, Emanuel Smith, Richard Perkins, Mary Utie, Samuel Browne, Wm. Osborn, etc.
